A Place at the Table with Ali Forney Center

Early last month, Ali Forney Center hosted nearly 1,000 people at Cipriani Wall Street to celebrate its annual A Place At The Table Gala to support its ongoing mission to protect LGBTQIA+ youths from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently. The evening was the Center’s most successful event to date, with a fundraising total of $1.8 million. KULE is proud to have sponsored the event and, for the third year in a row, donate a portion of the sales from our Pride Collection to Ali Forney Center. See more from the Gala and our newly launched Pride Collection for 2023 below.

Always with ❤️

Ali Forney Center’s A Place At The Table Gala was hosted by Indya Moore, a model, actress, one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2019, and an icon within the community. Anna Wintour presented Architectural Digest, accepted by its Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley, with the Community Partner Award for the magazine’s nearly $1 million raised to build a Harlem townhouse into a new home for Ali Forney Center to shelter their community.

The KULE table showed up to support and certainly came dressed for the evening. Nikki Kule, Jim Kuerschner, and Elizabeth Tamkin from the KULE team were joined by KULE family members Jonathan Kratz, Chloe King, Sam Todd, Brian Solis, Lauren Wilson, Stefan Beckman, and Kris Togias. We thank each and every one of them for coming to support.

There was no shortage of smiles or sparkles at the event. Attendees wore bold fashion to the gala, with array of sequins and crystals. We like to think the KULE table showed up, too 🙂.

In continued support, KULE is also hosting our Pride Event with the illustrator of the collection, Grace Miceli, at KULE Brooklyn on June 8th, with 20% of all sales that evening donated to Ali Forney Center. We hope that our event will continue the conversation and awareness for what Ali Forney Center does and continues to work hard to accomplish. There is so much more room for sparkles and smiles at the table.

Think Pink for Fall

At this point, you know that pink is really trending: in fashion, design, and art alike. Pink is a statement color, and it’s easy to pair with neutrals. Nikki incorporated pink when designing part of KULE’s Fall 2022 collection over a year ago. Seems like she just knew 😉. From bathroom tiles and couches, to the runway, to Harry Styles and Lizzo on stage, read on for all the fun you can have with the color pink!

And the pinks don’t stop at KULE. From the runway to street style, to celebrities on stage. Even Barbie is having a moment again! Pink is in the air.

As for art and interior design, that’s one place where pink has been a standout for quite some time. Artists, architects, and interior designers use pink for both originality, and to grab your attention. It sure does work.

That last photo is a great segway into the allure of the pink couch. And pink interiors in general: from living rooms to restaurants.

DRAFT Nikki’s Greece Travel Diary: Filled with Sights, Seafood and Stripes

Nikki’s love for travel stems from living abroad, visiting places for work, exploring with family and friends. and going for inspiration. She recently went to Greece for the second time, visiting different islands and leaving with amazing stories, experience of great food and sights, and — lucky for us — travel tips and recommendations! Read on to see everything from her trip including how she packed, the amazing places she went, and of course, where the best places are to eat.

Nikki went to Greece with some of her family and friends. She spent a week in Mykonos followed by a week traveling to different islands.

“I was at Mykonos for a week. It is a big party. All the restaurants have music playing as you eat. It’s so fun and unlike anywhere else.” – Nikki
“The other islands we went to — including Milos, seen here — are much more tranquil. You’re on a boat one moment, doing water sports another, and then sitting in the sand eating together. It’s so beautiful.” – Nikki

Between touring on foot, swimming, and dining, Nikki packed only what she knew she would wear. That included swimsuits, caftans or loose fitting dresses, pareos for the beach, flat sandals, and some workout wear.

Nikki says that slippery leather or plastic sole sandals aren’t easy to wear on the cobblestones in Greece, and recommends packing sandals that won’t slip and slide, like these from The Row, which she wore the most on her trip.
“I like challenging myself to wear every single thing I pack and I think I only didn’t wear two things. I wore a lot of Greece-appropriate white and blue, plus some of our colorful KULE items like the crochet Harmonie.” – Nikki

“I wore a lot of pareos (I love our new one from KULE, Lisa Corti and Totême) tunics, caftans, and dresses. It’s easy to wear them over swimsuits, my favorite of which are by Eres. The striped caftan I’m wearing here is by MIKOH. Sarah Clary turned me onto the brand. I cannot resist a stripe.” – Nikki
“I’m not a dress person, but I really felt they were so much easier and fit the island/beach vibe. I love this one by Bode. I also packed a floral one by Michael Kors, a green one by Lemaire, and a crochet one by Auralee” – Nikki

As for the food, Nikki says it’s the best. The seafood was a highlight, as everything is so fresh.

“Spilia in Mykonos is a restaurant on a rock, carved out in the water. You can go by boat to have the freshest seafood.” – Nikki
“We went to Scorpios in Mykonos with a big group of people. It’s dinner that turns into a night club on the water. Mykonos was an ongoing party so dinners were high-energy.” – Nikki

On the other islands, it was more about the scenery and serenity.

“Look at the size of the prawns! The size and freshness of the seafood was amazing.” – Nikki
“This is at Nammos for dinner. It’s a very cool vibe with a tranquil setting in the sand. We went with a big group, but it is also very romantic.” – Nikki

The picturesque sights are unlike anywhere else, with vibrant colors and crystal-clear waters.

“I loved Paros. It’s a port city that’s very young, vibrant, and fun.” – Nikki
“This is a cove in Polyaigos. I loved being in the water. We did paddle boarding and water skiing a lot. The waters are so beautiful and clear.” – Nikki

As for shopping Nikki says, “I got a pareo and a striped cover-up — go figure!” Other than that, she didn’t really shop. She says it’s mostly about the water and beaches, food, and exploring.

A specific spot Nikki loved and recommends going to — from the idyllic setting, to the architecture, design, and the views — is The Rooster in Antiparos. It was a perfect finale for her trip.

Featuring one of the views at The Rooster in Antiparos.
“The Rooster is in Antiparos, one of the most secluded islands in Greece. It’s so serene.” – Nikki

Until the next trip! Antio sas! 🇬🇷
