35 Vogue Editors Share the Best White T-shirts by Julie Tong

How do you find the best white T-shirt? It might seem like a simple question, but tracking one down that checks all the boxes—from fit to comfort—is quite a feat. After all, the more minimal a clothing item is, the more its flaws become glaringly clear. No one likes the feeling of slipping on a boxy, ill-fitted white tee that is as stiff as cardboard against their skin. Finally, however, the search is over.

Throughout the history of pop culture, from Marlon Brando to Kendall Jenner, the white T-shirt has been ingrained in both our lives and our wardrobes. “Everybody needs it. Every culture and subculture has used the white T-shirt. That’s where the genius is,” says Karla Welch, a stylist who committed herself to developing the perfect white tee. For us at Vogue, the shirt has become a unifying closet staple. As we return to the office, travel, and make social plans, there’s something comforting about wearing a crisp, classic white T-shirt in the morning—fresh and dewy-faced. Perhaps we’ll add a touch of jewelry, whether that’s a pair of gold hoops or a minimalist chain necklace. But the best white tees can be paired with just about everything, from comfortable at-home yoga pants to dressy skirts for the office and beyond. And what’s more iconic and representative of our daily lives than a white T-shirt and a classic pair of blue jeans? Two editors weighed in on this divisive topic, and the verdict is in: Yes, jeans can be comfortable at home too.

Below, 35 Vogue editors share the best white T-shirts for women and men to wear now and forever.

Madeline Swanson, Editor

I love Kule’s cotton tees for their classic unisex shape and soft, lightweight feel, with sleeves that are just long enough and never too tight. They tuck perfectly into my favorite jeans (a French tuck preferably, so as not to hide the brand’s trademark stripe at the bottom hem—my favorite part!).

Check Out this Season’s Newest Theme: Picnic-Core

You know KULE for our iconic patterns and prints, and for years, we’ve been really into checkerboard. This season though, Nikki looked toward gingham for inspiration,. It’s an inherently joyful print, reminiscent of summertime picnics and cookouts. The inspiration? References from art and design, of course, but most specifically, her kid’s line that came out in the early aughts. Check out more of this season’s newest theme, which we’re calling picnic-core.

The ethos of picnic-core is really a central part of the KULE brand: playful, fun, doesn’t take dressing too seriously but still looks put-together. Think of the process of planning your outfit out for a picnic itself: you want to be comfortable but photo-ready, and definitely prepared to have a second slice of pie.

Which is why it made so much sense to me when I learned that Nikki looked back at gingham designs from her former kid’s clothing when designing this collection. There is a youthful flair to the designs, a sort of sense of happiness stitched into every piece.

These children’s pieces are still relevant, fifteen years later, which proves how classic and relevant gingham is as a print. Perfect for a timeless brand like KULE 😉.

Nikki also looked at the things she is passionate about when designing, as always. She showed me photos she bookmarked of checkerboard treats, contrast colors, and sweet summer pool-scapes.

Show Your Appreciation With These Delightful Gifts for Mom by Madeline Fass and Rickie de Sole

Finding the best gifts for mom can be both the easiest task (they’ll love you no matter what!) and the hardest (what do you get the woman who raised you?). How do you sum up all your love and gratitude in just one box?

Truth is, you really can’t go wrong with the classics: Soft pajama sets, serving ware, a new book, and gifts that pamper will never disappoint. Who doesn’t love a comfy pajama update or a fuzzy pair of slippers to relax in? Those exact little luxuries are things one rarely wants to spend their own money on but will welcome wholeheartedly when presented as a gift.

Should you want something a tad more personal, we suggest leaning into her hobbies. Give a gift that allows a newfound interest to flourish. Newly minted chef? La Double J’s cheerful printed apron has you covered. Gym enthusiast? Theragun’s restorative muscle-therapy device is just the ticket.

And if you’re still in doubt, make it personal. A custom photograph-print tote is surely one way to capture (and carry around!) a memorable moment, while a monogrammed pouch or striped knit is still a very thoughtful gift in part because of the special consideration, care, and time that went into having it made. But if all else fails, make no mistake with buying her diamonds. Discover Vogue’s edit of gifts that are guaranteed to keep mom smiling straight through to Mother’s Day and beyond.

For the Sporty Mom

Not only will she look the part while being active this season, but she will also be able to track her performance and recover in style.

Welcome Warmer Days With the Season’s Best (and Biggest!) Beach Bags by Madeline Fass

The best beach bags and totes are as stylish as they are practical. For beach days or vacations, these carryalls are undeniably one of the warm season’s most important accessories. For those who find themselves beach-bound (or just have a lot to carry), you’ll likely need something to throw all of your necessities into.

In case you had any doubts about carrying a massive tote, just look at the spring 2022 runways. Supersized bags were spotted at Chanel, Isabel Marant, and Jil Sander, which means these maxi-sized accessories aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention a handful of designers—from Loewe, Marni, and Altuzarra to Proenza Schouler—have interpreted the raffia tote. Even Bottega Veneta and Prada offer styles in retro striped canvas and beach-towel-like terrycloth, respectively. There’s one thing the runway trends and practical shoppers can agree on: The bigger the beach bag, the better.

Until it’s time to pack your beach essentials, make use of one of these oversized totes for trips to the office—yes, your laptop will fit in just fine. Then when the time comes, throw your sunscreen, water bottle, and beach towel into a striped canvas tote bag or your summer read and sun hat into a colorful woven top-handle. Headed out of town? Pack an overnight’s worth of possessions into an XL canvas tote or large beach bag as a weekender for a road trip. Plus these canvas carryalls, straw totes, and beachy baskets are spacious enough for all of your essentials, so you won’t have to lug around more than one. Ahead, shop our edit of the best beach bags and totes for the season.

How it’s Made: A Deep “Dive” into What’s Coming This Season

We are still buzzing with the excitement around our Tennis Collection for Spring, but we’re headed full speed into the warmer months and just can’t keep the secret of what’s to come. Go behind the scenes from our Spring/Summer shoot. Here’s a hint: there’s crochet (!!), candy-colored terry, new patterns, and of course, fresh stripes for the season. Let’s dive in 🌊.

We start with the Tennis Collection, which launched just this March. With new logo pieces, terry, new “bundle” stripes styles, and outerwear for chilly spring days, we have you covered, on and off the court.

Prop styling by Tracy Morgan

We shot the entire Spring/Summer 2022 collection at a beautiful California Modern and Japanese Contemporary, ranch-style style home, designed by architect Milton Klein in 1960. It features glass walls and open floor plans. We photographed the bulk of the Tennis collection in the large, teak paneled, sunken living room.

The Tennis collection for March was especially fun to shoot, with creative direction by Nikki (as always), prop styling by Tracy Morgan, and all Lookbook photography (you can see the final shots from the photoshoot here) by Mei Tao. The set’s color palette — the floral upholstered couches, the fabulous sunken floor covered in a pristine beige shag rug, and ginormous windows looking out onto the yard’s greenery — complimented the navy, port, and cream that Nikki focused on for the collection.

As for what’s coming… we turned to the home’s Japanese garden and indoor pool to compliment the April and May collections. Nikki designed novelty crochet, gingham sets, terry in a spectrum of colors, and fun new graphics (this emoji comes to mind: 🍟) in cheery colors, with punches of lemon, poppy, royal blue, and pink. It’s quite possibly the happiest collection yet.

And with a taste of warmer weather just this past week, after the sting of winter’s second coming, we are so, so very excited to share these new pieces.

So, here’s a little teaser with a few styles to share the excitement, online now. You’re welcome 😉.
