A Guide to Last Minute Gifts (That Don’t Look Like Last Minute Gifts)

With less than a week until the holidays, some of us have found ourselves scrambling. You try to prep gifting ahead, get overwhelmed, and then feel like you’re falling through holiday quicksand. But don’t fret! Stores are back open for last minute shoppers, plus there are plenty of gifts that are just an email away with gift cards or subscriptions. Just because you were busy, overwhelmed, or simply not ready for the blur that is December, doesn’t mean you can’t still get the kulest gifts for the ones you love 🎁.

Let’s start with the easiest and — in my experience as a recipient — favorite gifts to give: digital gifts! Gift cards are actually my favorite because I can use them when I actually really, really want something. New collections are launching and gift cards will come in very handy when they do! KULE gift cards are here for the purchasing, so just name your price. I also recommend going for an Air Mail subscription. It’s the gift that keeps on giving weekly, straight to your inbox. It’s $79.99 for an annual subscription which means there will be tons of shopping treats and of course, articles to read with morning coffee for the duration of 2022. Other subscriptions I highly recommend: a Grounded Plants plant of the month subscription which delivers every month for 3 months (someone get this for me). For coffee lovers, a Blue Bottle subscription which means a variety of different coffees to try weekly! Fool-proof for New York gift-recipients would be a membership to Chill House services which means a monthly 50-Minute Massage or facial. Others I’ve recommended before and still stand by: a customized flower subscription (moms will love) or a Criterion Channel membership for endless classic movies at $99.99 a year.

Now time for some physical gifts. If you’re in New York, I would be remiss to not mention the KULE Rockefeller Center store where we will help you find last minute gifts for men, women, kids, and even dogs. We also have embroidered cocktail napkins — sold exclusively in store — which are a great addition to your holiday tablescape. In classic KULE sayings, food emojis, festive O JOY and OY VEY embroidery, they’re playful and pretty. If you can’t make it to the store, we are offering complimentary same-day delivery to most Manhattan zip codes on orders over $100.

Also uptown, The MoMA design store is always a place I go in person for last minute, really original gifts. When you click on an item online, it also will tell you what store it’s available at. I love their home assortment and am personally eyeing the Cocca Moka Espresso Pot, available at The Museum Store on 53rd Street. (By the way, MoMA also has a Gift card if you are not near a store). If you’re headed downtown, Sabah Studio NYC will have its Bleecker Street doors open for you to shop the best men’s and women’s slippers. I strongly recommend the Shearling Babas for cozy feet all winter. Not too far away in SoHo is Winter on Wooster, a curated collection of fun online brands from around the world with a focus on female and minority-founded small businesses, all for you to physically shop last minute gifts until the 24th! Some highlights: Julietta for handmade hair accessories and jewelry, BONBONWHIMS for funky, youthful, colorful rings, and Predominantly Black for natural body care and candles for the most relaxing holiday season.

If you can’t physically make it shopping, one of my absolute favorite candles is available for next day shipping! Homesick candles are personalized candles: you can get your loved one their hometown scent, perfect for the holidays. And then we have Net-a-Porter and The Outnet which each offer $25 same-day delivery for customers based in New York City and adjacent locations (see details here). You can receive your gifts, wrapped in a bow, in no time!

Heading Out? Don’t Forget These Stylish Winter-Ready Accessories by Madeline Fass

When the temperature starts to drop, stepping outside in style requires more than just a great coat and a warm face mask. In order to be prepared, you’ll need a few additional winter accessories for a fashionable jaunt in the cold. Luckily there are plenty of chic little garments to keep you cozy from head to toe, like cashmere gloves fit for a minimalist or chunky ribbed-knit snoods for the more adventurous layerer. There are also joyful scarves from Ganni, which definitely have the power to bring new life to drab, all-black outerwear and would make heading out into a blizzard or shoveling snow in the driveway way less miserable. Plus there are some totally classic iterations in neutrals from Cuyana and Loewe. Or if you prefer to bundle up without the bulk, a dickey, like one from & Other Stories, is a smart alternative to the classic winter scarf. Meanwhile, Everlane’s hooded neck warmer is the perfect addition to a classic wool coat or puffer jacket and won’t totally mess up your hair as a beret might. And to top it off, you might consider a snow-ready furry bucket hat from Clyde or Vince’s classic ribbed beanie.

Below, a winter accessories checklist for finishing off your cold weather–ready attire.

Winter Toppers

Finding a reason to leave the house and spend more time outside this winter is easy when you can choose between a variety of covetable hats. To wit, try keeping your head warm in a fine faux fur chapeau from Emma Brewin or a trapper style from Kule.

Welcome to The Cashmere Shop: the Coziest Place for the Holidays

Similar to how Nikki worked and reworked the shape and style of our classic striped staples, she’s developed the perfect cashmere sweaters for the cold weather months, now available at The Cashmere Shop. Just as you easily look cool and put together in the summer with a stripe tee, you now have the same ease and comfort when dressing in the colder season. Shop a little bit luxe for the holidays 🎁.

We have our Solid Cashmeres for everyday wear. There’s a classic crewneck with a collar that has double ribbing in the neckline to make it have a bit more volume and structure to it, so it’s never sloppy. Our cardigan — a style our customers love — has the same extra fill around the collar for that three-dimensional look, and features slits on the sleeves. We have a mockneck that is the perfect height for a higher-neck sweater, is a boxy shape, and features really cool slit sleeves. Then there is the v-neck, which has a slight drop shoulder, a side slit on the bottom hem’s seams (for easy front tucking), and a boxy shape in the body.

For signature stripes, there’s the popular Allegra striped cashmere, which we’ve brought back season after season, that now comes in our core colors of navy and cream and some seasonal ones.

And finally, Novelty Cashmere which includes colorful stripes in crewnecks and cardigans, special texture details like birds-eye and cable knit, cuff details, ribbing, and even sets (perfect for Christmas morning)! And of course, stripes and smiles 🙂.

Nikki’s picks include the Camel Crewneck because she loves solid’s too, not just stripes! She made the solid sweater style she sought after so we could all keep classic.

She also loves the Allegra stripe. It looks great with a black or navy coat, trench coat or grey overcoat. It’s particularly great styled with corduroy, denim and your everyday sneakers.

If you peep Nikki’s Gift Guide, she also has some favorite cashmere novelty knits. The Andre is striped crewneck, slightly thicker than the Allegra, with speckled blue, poppy, and navy. The Billy is an everyday cardigan featuring a birds-eye knit pattern for a vintage-inspired instant classic. Our bestselling Sinclair cardigan is always a hit, which will be the season’s powerhouse knit from the second you put it on. We now make it in a longer, belted version called The Vanessa, so you can swaddle yourself in cashmere this season. Pair either one with the Mabel joggers for the perfect luxurious set to wear on Christmas morning. Each would look really great wrapped in a bow under the tree.
